MKU Match Report

Caleb was making his league debut in the midfield paired with Gody as Justo held in the DM role. Olii and Shem manned the defensive flanks as Makori and Adet completed the four man backline. Kasee, Kangi and Atuulo were tasked with the offensive duties. Musa was between the posts.

Walt started on the bench having been recovering from a bug that had kept him from training all week. He was joined on the bench by Kolongo, Marvo, Frank, IhajiĀ  and Ismail.

Ihaji came on in the second half to replace the hard fighting Shem to calm matters at a point when the opponent was working hard to come back from a goal down. Marvo came in for the fighting Atuulo as Walt replaced the debut boy, Caleb.

Our goal came deep into the second half from a penalty, expertly executed by Walt after excellent work from Kangi who was brought down in the 18 area.

The game started on a high tempo with our boys pressing high up the field looking for an early goal. The opponents proved that they would not be pushover as they tried to give as much as they got on the offensive department. Our backline was however un-breached. Our front three continued to grow in confidence as the half wore on . It was attack after attack putting the opponents on the backfoot. We had penalty shouts which we quickly ignored by the referees. Kangi worked his usual magic on the opponents with ‘concert’ after ‘concert’ of ‘reggae dancing’ but luck wasn’t smiling on us yet as all efforts were either saved by the excellent keeper or shot wide. Gody was guilty of nearly landing the ball way into Kikuyu Market a few kilometers away from the field with a rashly taken short after a great team move.

The second half was more of the same thing with the opponents keeper again coming up with excellent saves; one on one saves first from Atuulo then Marvo who had just come on. Finally though, lady luck smiled. Walt sent a long pass to Kangi on the right who majestically controlled the ball and immediately launched his trademark slalom run into the D area leaving the defenders on the backsides. Just before pulling the trigger, a last ditch attempt by a defender to stop him forced a clear foul that the ref had no recourse but point to the penalty spot. Walt turned on the style on the penalty to ”Ramos” the ball home.

Kangi took home the MVP gong for the match.

That done and dusted, we start again on Monday to prepare for Equity .
